Maths:
I have been thoroughly pleased with my Maths achievements and improvements. During the start of the term, I decided that I would make a big effort to go out of my way to practice my maths at home - my mum helps me with it. This has really helped me improve, and I feel like I am where I should be with my maths. Speaking to Mrs S and my Mum at the Student Conferences and sorting out my goals for maths has really helped me improve, as my goals to achieve by the end of the year seem like an incentive. However, I need to continure to focus on my maths.

Reading:
Reading this term has been very interesting and I have got a lot out of it. These are the following activities that I enjoyed:
*The Reading Webquest - This was an interesting exercise. I found it very hard to get my group to collaborate together. I found that I was one doing a large amount of work, and that the others in my group were blaming me for everything in which they didn't really like. However, we overcame this and presented an awesome Webquest that we were all really proud of :)
* Novel Studies - I am very pleased with my Novel Study - I felt like I presented a very good study on the book I chose (GONE, By Michael Grant).
* Response Writing - My friend Livvy and I did very well in this. We worked well together and presented a great response.

Writing:
Literacy is my strong point, and I personally felt we did a large amount of Writing that I got a lot out of. I like the way there were a variety of different writing activities (ie. Procedures, Creative Writing, Article Writing etc). I achieved well in my writing and enjoyed it too.

Spelling:
This term, I continued to work on BBC Skillswise, Knoword and Free Rice. This improved my vocabulary greatly.

Topic:
To be honest, I did get a bit sick of our topic work. For our Us, Now and in the Future topic, we didn't really do much - we did a short mini inquiry and a trip to Cobblestones History Museum - I would of liked to of learnt more as I thought this would of been an interesting topic, had we done more in-depth work. However, I found the Rugby World Cup inquiry pretty interesting as we got to choose which aspect of the RWC we wanted to research.

Fitness:
Fitness this term was mainly Skipping. I found this pretty fun as it was different exercise to do. I would of enjoyed doing Skipping a bit more than we did though.

French:
French this term was pretty interesting - a good change from Te Reo. I felt like it was a bit repetitive, and I think in future the year 8's that learnt french in year 7, could be challenged at little more in that area, and perhaps have a larger variety of things to learn.

Overall Reflection:
Overall, I felt thoroughly pleased with improvements, achievements and collaboration during Term 3. The highlights of this term for me has been the variety in our work. I hope that I will get just as much out of next term as I did this term.

Maths:
For maths we focused on Algebra, using Mathletics and a new site ixlmath.com to practice. My maths is improving and I have set myself some quite challenging goals for the rest of the year. For my Algebra test I got 3A for the pre test and 3A for the post test. Although I got the same score, I still improved on my gaps. Because Maths isn't my strong subject, I have been putting in lots of extra time to practice maths at home, more so then we have to. I have really improved because of this, and I am finding maths far more enjoyable than I did which I think is partly because of that extra practice.

Te Reo:
For me, Te Reo wasn't that great as each year, we learn the same stuff. Although this term, Mrs S has made Te Reo more interesting as we made movies, animations and lots more. I didn't really enjoy Te Reo that much, but I did learn some interesting things and different sentences, and I enjoyed the different activities.

Reading:
This term's reading was AMAZING! We completed a webquest about the Boy In The Striped Pyjamas which was really cool as it was extremely interesting learning about World War II and the Concentration Camps. You can check out my Reading page to see what work we did on the Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, click on the link on that page to access the Wikispace my webquest group dedicated to this particular reading activity.
We also got the opportunity to watch the movie of Boy In The Striped Pyjamas which was awesome. For me this term, Reading was great. I enjoyed it, I definitely improved and I thought that the different reading activities we completed were extremely worth while.

Writing:
We yet again wrote Expositions and we also wrote Reports. I am VERY pleased with my results in writing as I scored a 5P for my Exposition and Report :)
Another part of writing was our Speeches. I did mine on Chocolate Slavery. I got into the Semi Final which was very exciting, but quite nerve wracking. We also did the Mystery Writer Activity. For me, Writing this term has been very cool. I am REALLY stoked with the marks I am getting on my writing, and I am improving all the time. I would have liked to do a bit more writing this term though, maybe some fictional pieces so we could have a break from doing reports and things.

Spelling:
Me, along with my friends Ella and Livvy, are very advanced in our Spelling, so this term, we practiced on some sites such and Vocab Sushi, Free Rice and Kno Word. We also went to Room 6 to help little kids read and do maths. For our GAP Analysis test, I got 97/100 :) which I was very pleased with. My goal for the end of the year is to get 100% in the GAP Analysis test at the end of the year.

Topic:
Our topic this term was Our Living World. We learnt about the human impact on the world. We did many different activities, check out my Topic Term 2 page to see what we have been doing. I did my Inquiry on Pollution within the Waikato River. I found this a very fascinating Inquiry, as we learnt about Eco Systems and Food chains. I learnt a lot through the term about this Topic, although we learnt a lot about pollution and eco systems which started to get a bit tedious after a while. I think I would have liked to have a bit more variation in what we learnt in our Topic this term.

Fitness:
This year was Cross Country. It was lovely. I came 4th in the school Cross Country and I came 7th in the Interschools. For the Regionals, I came 58th.
Throughout the term, we trained and exercised which definitely payed off.

Reflection: Overall, I really enjoyed this term as I have improved in everything, from school work, as well as Cross Country Running, even in my horse riding (at home). I think a big highlight for me this term was the National Young Leaders Day (Check out my National Young Leaders Day 2011 page) for more info. This awesome day was very inspiring and has really made me think about the big world out there. Matariki (Maori New Year) was also a good thing to be part of. Most of the school came to school to welcome the Maori New Year in. Click here to find out more about Matariki. Because I am head girl, Caleb (head boy) and I had to plant trees to add to the previous trees planted. I had a very hard time trying to plant mine - lets just say I won't be a good gardener. I found this term very worth while, I learnt a lot, I improved and I hope we will have as good a time as we did this term, next term :)

Screen_shot_2011-07-13_at_10.51.21_AM.png,

This term has been a great one and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. We have done lots of different activities and units of work. I have taken on lots of different responsibilities and I am loving my new role as a Black Hat and Head Girl. I have got a lot out of this term and I hope that next term will be just a good!

Maths:
Our first unit of maths this term was Statistics - Interpreting Data. We then moved onto Probability. We practiced the maths on Mathletics or Study Ladder. I got 45/50 for the end of unit test which I am really pleased about.
Also, my maths goal at the moment is to be at Stage 8 at basic facts by June (Thats the highest stage). I am still at Stage 7 but I am definitely improving :)

Te Reo:
This term was basically just the basics of Te Reo Maori. We learnt the days of the week, most numbers and introducing eachother. It was pretty enjoyable, though a bit boring at some parts. I have definitely improved in my Maori Knowledge though.

Reading:
For reading at the start of the term we did a Reading Fairytale Webquest to complete in pairs which I really enjoyed. After that we did reading Non - Fiction Reading Activities. I thought it was pretty interesting and I really liked the Webquest, though it was quite challenging.

Writing:
For writing we focused on recounts and expositions which I enjoyed. When Mrs S evaluated our work I was very pleased with my score, 4A. Also, each term, we each put together a news sheet about our term. This is my mine:

I am really liking Writing at the moment, I learnt a lot this term.

Spelling:
Spelling this term was practiced on the Spelling City site. I don't really need to practice my spelling that much, but I go onto Free Rice to expand my vocabulary.

Topic:
The topic this term was 'My World and I' where we focused on keeping safe on the internet and puberty.
For puberty we looked at the physical changes as well as emotional and I got a 5B for my score on my puberty presentation which I am stoked with!!
I enjoyed the topic this term and I can't wait for next term!

Fitness:
This term we walked to the pools everyday for swimming sports training and for the past couple of weeks we have been runnig around the turf for six minutes non stop. I hope the training will pay off for cross country next term! :)
